Cairistìona is Gaelic and from the Latin "Christina" and dates from the 3rd century. The name was brought to Scotland in the 11th century by Queen Mairead (Margaret) after whom South Queensferry is named. Joscelin and I came across this name from a well known Gaelic song by the same title which I learned in a class from the Gaelic singer Art Cormack. The song has been recorded by George Jackson of Ossian as well as by Tannas, one of our favourite bands. Morna is from the Gaeilic "Muirne" meaning beloved.
